Jiu-Jitsu International was formed as a non-profit organization, to develop Jiu-Jitsu as an Amateur Sport. The goal of the JJI is to establish an International Sports Governing Organization that will maintain the history of Jiu-Jitsu, develop rules for competition, and set rank standards and goals for the sport. It shall be the primary goal of the JJI to establish, recognize, and assist individual member organizations throughout the world, and work with the International Olympic Committee for inclusion of Jiu-Jitsu in the Olympic Games.
Anyone may be a member of the Jiu-Jitsu International by applying to the JJI for membership and by being a member in good standing of the Jiu-Jitsu International recognized National Jiu-Jitsu Association or Jiu-Jitsu organization of the nation in which they reside.
The organization shall consist of a Grandmasters Council made up of all 9th Degree Red Belts holding that rank as of the passing of Grandmaster Helio Gracie. Only Grandmasters will set the membership requirements for the Grandmaster Council. The Grandmasters Council shall have authority over competition rules, rank, and any other applicable Jiu-Jitsu matters.
A World Black Belt council will be established to govern the organization. The membership of the World Black Belt Council will be made up of one primary representative of each recognized member nation and one alternate representative of each recognized member nation. These members shall meet one day before the Annual World Championship to conduct the general business of the organization. The date and location of the World Championship will be designated by the Grandmasters Council. It shall be the purpose of all member nations of the World Black Belt Council to develop the sport of Jiu-Jitsu in their respective countries, consisting of properly introducing the rules for competition and tournaments, requiring that JJI rules are followed in regard to rank standards and to establish a system of competitions and National Championships in their respective countries.
A President of the World Black Belt Council shall be elected by the Grandmasters Council. The JJI shall designate an Executive Director to manage the day to day business affairs of the organization. This person shall be chosen by the Grandmasters Council. The JJI shall establish tournament rules, a Referee certification program that will conduct all training of tournament officials. In addition, the JJI will establish a Tournament Director Certification program that will develop standards for conducting official JJI tournaments. The JJI shall establish the rank structure under the direction of the Grandmasters that will develop standards for promotions. The Grandmasters will approve all national rank standards to ensure they are in accordance with the JJI standards.
